Today, at circle time, we read Hippo's Tooth Surprise. As our first small group activity, we practiced letter identification and toothbrushing habits by cleaning alphabet "germs" off teeth. We discussed how some foods and drinks were good for our teeth and how others were too sugary or unhealthy in our second activity, sorting some examples into those categories. Then, we worked with Play Doh as our third small group activity, creating teeth to fill mouths with the corresponding numbers. We had a terrific Tuesday!

This week's focus is on health, hygiene, and the human body! Before circle time, we had a special guest! Mrs. Ashley came and talked to us about germs. She read us a story and then we conducted a hand washing experiment. After rubbing in special lotion, we practiced washing our hands and Mrs. Ashley shined a black light to see how well we did! We read the book You Can't See Your Bones With Binoculars at circle time. We talked about the bones that we knew and how, underneath, we were all skeletons! For our first small group activity, we rolled dice and then counted the dots to find out how many q-tip bones we needed to build our own skeletons. We worked on letter recognition and pre-writing skills in our second small group. We took turns drawing the beginning letters of common bones in black sand on the light table, creating X-Rays! Then, as our third activity, we used plastic gloves and straws to demonstrate why we need bones. We found that it is so much easier to give high fives when our hands are firm than floppy, and we even discussed how gloves can help keep germs off of us when touching yucky things. It was a great Monday!

Our day started with checking our traps and seeing the mess that the little leprechaun left us. We noticed his green footprints and gold dust EVERYWHERE, even on our tables and the toilet seat! He got into a lot of mischief in our classroom, turning chairs over and opening all of the doors. At circle time, we talked about the country of Ireland and the beginnings of the holiday, as well as read the book St. Patrick's Day. For our first small group activity, we counted gold coins to fill our pots to the corresponding numbers. We explored St. Patty's slime in our second small group, using our senses to describe it as we played. Then, as our large group activity, we created rainbows with various art materials. We worked on color order and matching as we glued the materials on our plate rainbows. It was a really fun Friday!

Before our day began, we noticed that a special someone had visited our center! We had to step over his little, green footprints and gold dust to get inside, and on the door, we read his message that let us know he would be returning later. Today, at circle time, we read Looking for Leprechauns. Our activities were a little different because we spent a lot of time constructing our leprechaun traps. We used various tools and art supplies to decorate our boxes, and we even added treats inside, like gold and gold coins, apples, and ice cream, to entice our sneaky guest! After we set up our traps outside where we found the clues, we gathered back at the tables for an interesting painting activity. We used cut, green peppers like stamps to create clovers on our papers. We noticed that some of our peppers made three leaf clovers and others made four leafed ones. We also found that the cut peppers were wet enough to make marks even before we placed them in the paint! Most of our outdoor time was spent peeking at our traps through the fences and looking for clues on the playground! We had an amazing Thursday!
