Today we read The Classroom Pet by Grace Maccarone and illustrated by Betsy Lewin. In this book, Sam got to bring home the classroom hermit crab during break but then he loses her in his house and has to look everywhere until he finds her on a tree. During our sensory and science activity, we made play dough pet snakes. We made our snakes really long and we talked about how some people have a snake as their pet but we also talked about what snakes eat and where they live. We also used our literacy and fine motor skills to learn some pet sign language. We learned the sign language for dog, cat, rabbit, snake, and fish. For our math and cognition activity, we found the number two in a fish bowl. When we found a number two, we would use our dot markers to show where they were.

It's the start to a new week and that means that we learn about something new. This week we are learning about pets. Today we read Pet Care written by Betsey Chessen. During our first activity, we did a goldfish color matching. Each of our friends got a paper with each of the goldfish colors on it and they each got about 10 goldfish. Once all of the colors were matched correctly, they could eat the goldfish. For our sensory and science activity, we painted pet rocks. Our pet rocks were painted with orange, red, and purple and then we added eyes them. We also made a name paw print using our literacy and fine motor skills. We glued our paw print in the order our name goes in.
