Today, we read The Night Before Halloween! We measured pumpkins with tape measures and made halloweeny patterns. Next, we had our Trunk or Treat! We are glad for all of the friends who were able to join us! We also had our star of the week's mom join us for breakfast and play in the classroom!

We are missing a few friends, but we got several pictures!

Today, we read Halloween and did our cultural day activities! We looked at the globe and found Romania and looked at pictures of Romanian culture. We built Romania castles with wooden blocks. Next, we brought Frakenworms to life by mixing vinegar and baking soda. Ask your kids to see if they remember what the ingredients were and how they reacted when mixed. We also learned the letter M today by using worms to write the letter! We also welcomed a new friend today!

Making the MMMM sound!

Today, we read Mater and the Ghost Light! In small groups, we practiced cutting "spider webs." We also counted spiders and worms, found the numeral that went with how many we had and then, wrote the number or made tally marks to represent how many we had. In large group, we made puffy ghosts by mixing shaving cream and glue on white paper.

This week's theme is Halloween! Today, we read Glad Monster Sad Monster. In large group, we made shape monsters and talked about the shapes as we glued them on. In one small group, we laced monster cards. In our other small group, we did a sink or float experiment with pumpkins, gourds, and pine cones. First, we made a prediction of what would happen and then, we tested it. We were a little surprised all of our items floated! We decided to add more items to see if they would sink and the kids decided to test paper and a rock. As expected, the rock quickly sank. The paper floated until it soaked up water and then it sank too!

Everyone wanted to put on the monster mask!

Today, we read The Kissing Hand. In one group we used shape cards and a mirror and determined what shape appeared in the mirror. In another group, we used clothespins and popsicle sticks with letters on them to match letters together. This group really tested our fine motor and identification skills. Later, we played bat hide and seek. While one friend was being blindfolded our other friends went to find hiding places. We liked this game so much that we all took turns being the hider and the seeker. This game helped us hone in on our listening skills!
