This week's focus is on health, hygiene, and the human body! Before circle time, we had a special guest! Mrs. Ashley came and talked to us about germs. She read us a story and then we conducted a hand washing experiment. After rubbing in special lotion, we practiced washing our hands and Mrs. Ashley shined a black light to see how well we did! We read the book You Can't See Your Bones With Binoculars at circle time. We talked about the bones that we knew and how, underneath, we were all skeletons! For our first small group activity, we rolled dice and then counted the dots to find out how many q-tip bones we needed to build our own skeletons. We worked on letter recognition and pre-writing skills in our second small group. We took turns drawing the beginning letters of common bones in black sand on the light table, creating X-Rays! Then, as our third activity, we used plastic gloves and straws to demonstrate why we need bones. We found that it is so much easier to give high fives when our hands are firm than floppy, and we even discussed how gloves can help keep germs off of us when touching yucky things. It was a great Monday!
