Happy Thursday! Community worker week is coming to an end pretty soon. We had so much fun with our community worker activities today. Today we read the book Police Officer by Amanda Askew and Andrew Crowson. This book was all about the work of a police officer. First we learned about how they go to a meeting every morning to discuss crime around the city and then they are all assigned their jobs for the day. Officer Anita finds two boys who had stolen a game from a store. She teaches them that stealing is bad and they agree that the best course of action is to return it and apologize. For our first activity today we did fine motor skills and literacy. For this activity, we wrote our names on our white paper. We all had different fun ways of writing our names; some traced their hands and put the letters in the fingers and others made rainbow names! For our next activity we did math and cognition. We had a big mailbox with many different colored slots to drop their letters in. The kids had to match the color of their letters with the corresponding colored slot! For our last activity today we did sensory and science. For this activity we made fire (don't worry it was fake)! We took baking soda and vinegar and added red and yellow food coloring to it. Once we added the vinegar to the food coloring and the baking soda it started to ooze out of our container and it looked like fire rising. We repeated the experiment multiple times because it was so awesome!
