Today we read Apples Grow on Trees by Melvin and Gilda Berger. This book taught us all about the different colored apples that we can pick from the apple trees and that we can use apples in many different ways. For our sensory and science activity, we made an apple volcano. One of our teachers cut out a hole in an apple and then we put baking soda into the hole. To make our volcano, we poured some vinegar into our apple. The vinegar and baking soda created a fizzing chemical reaction that made the apple look like it was erupting! Then we used our math and cognition skills to trace apple numbers. We recognized each number once we traced it and then we could color in our apples if we wanted to. In our literacy and fine motor group, we listened to the book Apples by Gail Gibbons. This book taught us how many different countries that apple trees can grow and how many different apples there are in the world.
