It's Wednesday and that means we're already halfway through our exploration of birds and trees! Today we read two books that were about acorns. The first book was called Acorns Everywhere by Kevin Sherry. In this book, squirrels hid their acorns and end up losing them all until the acorns show up everywhere. The second book we read was From Acorn to Oak Tree by Emma Carlson Berne. This book discusses the growth of acorns and how they live on a tree until they drop to the ground to either grow or get picked up by a squirrel. In our sensory and science group, we learned about Russian culture and architecture by constructing Russian domes out of play dough. We also used our literacy and fine motor skills to practice the words chicken, egg, tree, bird, and baby in sign language. We talked about how we have been seeing a lot more birds and baby animals now that it is Spring. Lastly, we used our math and cognition skills to play a tree add and subtract acorn game. We rolled a dice and added that many acorns to our tree and when our tree was full we continued rolling to take away some acorns. We can't wait to learn more during our last two days of bird and tree week!
