As this new week unfolds, we will be concentrating on a circus theme. At circle time, we listened to Clifford at the Circus. For our first small group activity, we worked on circus puzzles. We had to put numbers in order to piece our puzzles together. Our second activity involved identifying beginning letters of pictures and also matching those letters. Then, for the final group, we made "dancing corn" by adding baking soda, corn kernels, and vinegar to a jug and watching the kernels bob up and down with the bubbles. It was a magical Monday!

Today, at circle time, we read the book Tadpole to Frog. We discussed the life cycle of frogs, and again reviewed what types of animals and bugs are most commonly found in or around ponds. As our first small group activity, we worked on theme words, identifying and matching letters by hopping our frogs from one labeled lily pad to another. We sorted frogs by color in the second group. Then, during the third activity, we conducted an experiment with paper water lilies. We colored them, folded the petals in to the middle, and placed them in water to watch how the petals unfolded. We talked about how the flowers open up to the sun and how our flowers soaked up the water causing the petals to fall open toward it. We had a great Thursday!

Making a train at circle time!

During circle time, we read In the Tall, Tall Grass. Before we played, we got to see two of our teacher's pet turtles and we even got Rose, the hamster, out for a couple minutes! For our first small group activity, we worked on our oral skills to try to catch flies like frogs, using party horns as long tongues. As our second activity, we sorted through pictures of turtles and put them in categories of either big or small. Then, all together, we made our own pond scenes. First, we drew pictures of what we wanted around our ponds. Next, we glued on green paper, and then we used scissors to make cuts to create tall grass. It was a wonderful Wednesday!
