Our friend from the MU extension returned today to talk to us about the fruit portion of the food groups. She read a book called Handa's Surprise written by Eileen Browne. Handa lives in her little village in Kenya and want to surprise her friend with seven fruits that she has in a basket on top of her head. We also all tried a piece of kiwi that she brought in for us. For our sensory and science activity, we talked about The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle and discussed what facial expression we would make to be grouchy. We also practiced many other emotions as well . In our next activity, we did an Eric Carle animal matching game. We matched the color of the animal with the correct color on the other card. We also learned some new words in sign language using our literacy and fine motor skills. We practiced the sign language for bear, dog, sheep, frog, turtle, and duck.
