As we continued our Dr. Seuss week, we read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish during circle time. Our first small group activity was completing a gold fish graph by sorting the snack crackers by color. After we sorted the fish into group on our graphs, we counted to find out which group had the most and the least amount of fish. We explored a special sensory tub for our second activity. We searched through the shaving cream waters to find different colored candy fish and experimented with water and vinegar to make changes to our blue baking soda stars. For our last small group activity, we identified capital letters and used gold fish crackers to trace them. We played a couple games in the motor room this morning due to the rain, but despite the weather, we enjoyed showing off our crazy hair-dos! It was a wonderful Wednesday!

At circle time, our two Stars of the Week shared with us today! We got to know their favorite things and got to read from their favorite books. Continuing our Dr. Seuss theme, our first small group involved letter recognition. We took turns identifying letters on pebbles from the fish bowl and matching them to the letters on our paper. We explored the sensory bin that was filled with blue sands, as well as elements from several Dr. Seuss stories, including green eggs labeled with shapes and numbers, red and blue fish counting cards, truffula trees, and various red, blue, and yellow materials in our second group! For our last small group activity, we practiced number recognition, counting skills, and one to one correspondence by identifying numbered fish bowls, counting out gold fish crackers, and placing the corresponding number of fish in the bowls. It was a terrific Tuesday!

Today, at circle time, we read The Cat in the Hat. For our first small group activity, we looked at tall hats with different colored stripes and after counting them, we clipped clothespins with the corresponding numbers. We worked on putting the letters of our names in order and patterning in our second group, by making red and white striped hats. As our whole group activity, we explored Cat in the Hat slime! We played with red and white slime, discussed how they felt as we worked with them, and talked about what happened when we mixed them together. We had a marvelous Monday!

Today, at circle time, we got to know our Star of the Week a little better. She shared her favorite stuffed animal and book with us, and we looked at lots of her family pictures! Our first small group activity included a short video about what some dinosaurs ate, and then after watching, we sorted our dinosaurs by whether they ate meat or plants. For our second small group, we worked on our very own dinosaur booklets! We read them, counted the dinosaurs on each page, and colored them by following directions. As a large group, we created our own shape dinosaurs! We had a fun Friday!

Today, at circle time, we read the book Dinosaurs. We again discussed what we knew about them, as well as new things that we had learned so far this week. In our first small group activity, we worked on color recognition and following directions. After we were given a colored dinosaur to find, we listened to figure out which way to move it, such as up, down, to the left, to the right, above, and below other dinosaurs. We identified and continued dinosaur patterns in our second group. Then, all together, we created fossils! We used small dinosaurs to make footprints and imprints in our dirt dough that will be sent home after they are baked. It was a wonderful Thursday!
