Continuing our early Spring theme, we read The Grumpy Easter Bunny at circle time. We did activities a little different today. We incorporated counting, measuring, ingredient identification, and fine motor skills into one whole group as we created our very own Peeps play dough. We worked in small groups to add the necessary ingredients to our bowls, counted down the time as we waited for the microwave to finish, and took turns mixing the dough before we explored it with our hands and other senses. We even got to eat a bite of our creation! It was a great Thursday!

Today, at circle time, we read Easter Eggs Everywhere. As our first small group activity, we worked on patterning by identifying egg colors and putting them in order to match the pictures. Next, for our second small group, we explored the sensory bin that was filled with Spring confetti, magnet wands and eggs, as well as hidden pictures that we matched together. Then, all together, we decorated our very own eggs using Q-tips. We also had a lot of fun in the motor room this morning doing our "egg-ercises"! It was a wonderful Wednesday!

As we continued our new theme, we read The Night Before Easter. For our first small group activity, we worked on number recognition by looking for a hiding chick under numbered eggs. In the next group, we practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters on Spring sensory trays, covered in bright colored rice and egg shaped sprinkles. Then, for our final small group activity, we conducted an experiment to make our "chicks" fly. We filled our egg chick bottoms with water, dropped in Alka-seltzer tablets, put the tops back on, and waited to see what reaction we could get to happen. After trial and error, and brainstorming, we finally got our chicks to pop their tops! Even though the weather has been crazy, we found a way to spend most of our morning outdoors. We had a terrific Tuesday!

To begin the week after our break, and to talk about experiences we had, we read Easter Egg Hunt. We are focusing on eggs, chicks, and bunnies for our new theme! For the first small group activity, we went on our own egg hunt in the classroom! After we found the eggs, we opened them, identified the shapes we saw, and then matched them to the shapes on the paper. Next, as our second group, we used spoons to scoop eggs out of water and drop them in baskets. We had fun collecting all of them and then pouring them back in to our sensory bin! For our final small group activity, we used tweezers and tongs to pick up pom-poms and place them in matching colored eggs. We even tried "egg-ercises" in the motor room because it was too cold this morning to play outside. It was a magnificent Monday!
