Today, at circle time, we read Excavators. For our first small group activity, we practiced our writing skills by working on our number of the week (10) with dry erase markers. We took our transportation toys to the "car wash" and gave them a good cleaning, rinsing, and drying in our second small group. Finally, as our whole group activity, we created stop lights by ripping red, yellow, and green paper to glue on our templates. We had a wonderful Wednesday!

Today, at circle time, we read Trucks. Our first small group activity consisted of matching pictures of different forms of transportation. In our second small group, we practiced our pre-writing skills by tracing various lines with markers. Lastly, we explored shaving cream and water colors on the tables with cars, trucks, and planes, discussing the color changes as the paint mixed. We had a terrific Tuesday!

Starting our week off, we read Backhoe Joe at circle time. We discussed various means of transportation that get us where we need to go and machines that help us get hard work done. We also got to sing for one of our classmates to celebrate his birthday! For our first small group activity, we practiced our counting skills by rolling dice and adding the corresponding number of rocks to our dump truck. We explored the sensory bin, filled with different materials and vehicles, for our second group. As our whole group activity, we used cars, trucks, and planes to paint our own pictures. It was a marvelous Monday!

To end our short week, we read I Accept You As You Are at circle time. We talked about how our friends were all different, and how those differences made us special. For our first small group activity, we conducted a science experiment to demonstrate how our actions can affect our friends and their feelings. We poured water, representing our classroom, and pepper, as our friends, into a bowl and then dipped a Q-tip with dish soap acting as a mean word or action, into the middle of the bowl.  We watched as the pepper spread to the sides. We discussed how friends didn't like to be treated badly and they would "run away." As our second small group, we played a game that focused on taking turns. We each pulled fuzzy sticks that were holding pom-poms in a strainer, and watched to see if any fell out. Then, for our whole group activity, we made friendship art as a class. We partnered up on our swing in the motor room and painted a picture that will be incorporated in our classroom. It was a fantastic Friday!
