Today, at circle time, we recited "Humpty Dumpty" together. We discussed how and why he broke and used those ideas for our activities. For our first small group, we identified numbers to find out how many blocks we needed to build Humpty's wall and then we watched to see if our eggs broke open as they fell off. We got to break open eggs ourselves in the second small group activity, and then we identified the upper and lower case letters we found inside. Finally, as our third small group, we experimented with several materials to determine if we could save Humpty next time. After dropping a hardboiled egg and seeing the damage, we predicted which classroom materials would cushion the fall and then tested those ideas. We found that beans and rice helped keep our eggs safe, but to our surprise, the cotton balls did not. It was a terrific Tuesday!
