Red, White and Blue Week

During Red, white and blue week we celebrated Independence Day with many festive activities, books and songs. We made fireworks in a bottle with silver star confetti, water and red, white and blue ribbons. It was neat to shake them and see the stars and ribbon float around and then settle. We manipulated blue play dough, pretended to blast off like fireworks, made a footprint flag, made a musical marching band, played follow the leader, spray painted fireworks, shot balls up in the air like fireworks from our parachute, made red, white and blue paintings, went on a flag hunt, and had a celebratory picnic. We also read America, a book about opposites of America and learned "flag" in sign language.

Spray painting fireworks!
(They love to spray the water bottles AND it's great for exercising those little muscles!)

Beaches Week

This week's theme was beaches. We had lots of fun with sand, seashells and water. Here are just a bucket full of activities we did: dug for seashells in our sand table, had a pretend beach party and played in the water table and sprinkler, explored the ocean in our sensory bottles, painted with water on our building, looked at different beach and ocean creatures, read some fishy books and sang some fishy songs.
Sea turtle and whale stamping

This week was Frog and Turtles week. Monday, we painted with blue paint and mixed our sand with it to make a "pond." We also read Who Hops? and did a block hop activity where we pretended to be frogs. Tuesday, we made footprint frogs and sang our song "Five Green and Speckled Frogs." Wednesday, we played in the motor room stretching our froggy leg. Even the infants enjoy doing that! We also made contact paper turtles. Thursday, we made paint dot lily pads, played on the big playground, and played our frog and turtle matching game.  Next week we are celebrating father's day with activities related to things children may do with their dad or grandpa. We are also having "Donuts for Dad" on Thursday morning 8:30-9:00AM.
