At circle time, we talked about fairy tales and listened to The Three Little Pigs. Our first small group activity involved counting pictures from the story and clipping the corresponding number symbol. We used yellow paper "straw", craft "sticks", and Lego "bricks" to build houses in the second activity, and then we tried to blow them down. As our final small group, we discussed the sequence of home building from the book and glued materials on houses to retell the story. We had a marvelous Monday!

As an ending to this week, we had our cultural day. During circle time, we read All About Australia and discussed the difference in the country's flag to ours, animals and plants found there, and the most common foods and pastimes on that continent. For our first small group activity, we sorted American and Australian coins, identifying the similarities and differences among the groups. We used our rhythm sticks as "clapping sticks" and practiced a new song in our second activity. Then, all together, we made koala bears. We painted our paper plates gray and then put on eyes, muffin liner ears, a nose, and a mouth to create our Australian animals. We had a fun Friday!

Today, we read Who Lives in Trees? at circle time. After that, we sang for a friend to celebrate his upcoming weekend birthday! As our first small group activity, we went outside to measure the trees. We worked with partners and used cloth measuring tapes to estimate the diameter of the nearby trees, and we discussed which was the largest and which was the smallest. Next, we decorated tree branches with beads to work on our fine motor skills in the second activity. Then, in our last group, we made recycled bird feeders that we will hang on the tree out front of the center. It was a terrific Thursday!

At circle time, we read Let's Have a Tree Party! For our first small group activity, we identified number symbols and used one to one correspondence to fill our bird nests with eggs. We decorated our very own leaves that we will display on our class tree coming soon in our second group. As our last activity, we came together to make birdseed names! We traced our names in glue and then sprinkled and poured birdseed on, admiring the 3D effect. It was a wonderful Wednesday!
