To end this week, Mrs. Ashley came in again today. We talked about what foods and drinks were included in the dairy group, that we get milk from cows, and that dairy products help keep our teeth and bones strong. She read us a book, and then we got to practice brushing lettuce out of teeth! After that, we used colorful scarves to point to body parts. We even got to use our muscles to practice throwing and catching the scarves! At circle time, we watched a short video that described habits to help keep our bodies clean and healthy. We also celebrated one of our friends' birthdays and sang him "Happy Birthday", as we won't have school on his actual day! Our first small group activity involved giving our baby dolls baths! We got to put them in our "bathtub" and used sponges to clean them. In our second small group, we practiced good hand washing techniques. First, we put our hands in lotion that was filled with glitter "germs" so we could visually see what needed to be washed off. Then, some of us sang the Alphabet song, while others counted to 20, until our hands were clean. As our whole group activity, we used toothbrushes and white paint to practice proper brushing techniques on a large tooth outline. We had a fun Friday!

Today Mrs. Ashley visited again and we learned about the fruit group. She read us a book and talked to us about how fruits help our bodies. After that, we got to decorate leaves and play pin the leaves on the apple! We took turns being blindfolded and spun to see who could get the closest. We even got to try a tangerine! At circle time, we read Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late. We discussed how good sleep can help our bodies grow and heal. For our first small group activity, we sorted bones by size. We listened to "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" in the motor room and practiced identifying body parts, as well as played a Simon Says game as our second activity. Then, in our last small group, we rolled dice, counted dots, and tried to find the corresponding number symbols on our mouth sheets, using Play Doh to make the teeth. We had a great Thursday!

This morning was exciting with our special guest Mrs. Ashley again! We talked about the grain food group and she read us a book about breads. We even got to walk around the classroom with different types of food on our heads, just like the pictures from her book! Then, Mrs. Ashley showed us bread dough and we got to practice kneading and rolling it out, as well as make shapes. Later, at circle time, we discussed good hygiene habits and why we should take care of our bodies. We read Why I Should Brush My Teeth. For our first small group activity, we played a body parts BINGO game! We identified pictures of familiar body parts while we played. Next, in our second small group, we practiced healthy dental habits by "flossing" Play Doh out of our block "teeth" with string. For our final activity, we conducted an experiment to demonstrate what happens to food in our bellies. We put crackers in plastic bag "stomaches" filled with carbonated soda and watched as the liquid broke apart the food and, eventually, dissolved the crackers! It was a wonderful Wednesday!
