During circle time, we read Norma Jean, Jumping Bean. We talked about sport competitions and briefly discussed the Winter Olympics. For our first small group activity, we sorted Pom-Poms by colors that correlate to the Olympic rings, using tongs and tweezers to work our small muscles. We conducted an experiment in our second group. After counting the five baking soda rings, we squeezed colored vinegar onto them and watched the bubbly reaction! Then, as our whole group activity, we painted with paper tubes to create Olympic rings of red, yellow, green, blue, and black. It was a wonderful Wednesday!

To continue our sports theme, we read On the Ball at circle time, after discussing different sports that we knew. Our first small group activity involved fine motor work, as we hammered golf tees into styrofoam blocks and tried to balance our golf balls on top. We identified balls in groups of pictures that didn't belong in our second group. We differentiated between them by type, color, and size, clipping clothespins to show our answers. As our final small group activity, we practiced our predicting and experimenting skills using various balls and ramps. We chose balls and ramps that we predicted would roll the farthest, and then observed the outcomes. It was a terrific Tuesday!

This week our focus is on sports! At circle time, we read Curious George Goes to the Baseball Game. In our first small group activity, we identified pictures of balls that go with different sports and then worked on our fine motor skills by lacing strings around them. We sorted various balls by size as our second activity, identifying them as small, medium, and big, as well as counting which pile had the most. For our large group, we created process art, using different balls to paint our papers. We had a magnificent Monday!

To end our week, we shared our Star of the Week's board, toys, and favorite book at circle time! For our first small group activity, we worked on connect-the-dot by number pages to discover which vehicles we had, before coloring them. We counted small rocks as we added them to aluminum foil boats to see how many it took to sink them in our second group. It was so much fun playing in the water and seeing how quickly we could fill our boats! Lastly, as our whole group activity, we decorated train engines and their cars. We even practiced tracing and writing our names! It was a fantastic Friday!
