We got some new friends today! We read Counting Bears and did an activity counting bears and bear paws and sorting them by color. We matched pictures of mama bears and baby bears and talked about big and little. We also made paper teddy bears! We stuffed the bears using wooden rods to push the cotton to the feet, stapled them shut and painted them brown. On the playground, we enjoyed the nice weather by riding our bikes!

Today, we read Corduroy Lost and Found. We did a science experiment with gummy bears by putting them into different solutions to see how they change over the week. They are in water, salt water, baking soda water, and vinegar. We played bears colors and shapes bingo. We also pretended to feed a bear blueberries! This activity was very fun for the kids, but little did they know I planned it so they could practice their tong using skills. This way they can get better at family style serving since that is how we serve meals here. We had an awesome day!

This week is Bear week! Today, we read We're Going on a Bear Hunt! We explored a sensory scene that represented the story and talked about the sequence they were in on the bear hunt. We explored a bear matching activity where we found matches based on color and the clothing the bear was wearing. We also talked about the letter O, words that started with O and friends whose names had O in it. We used paint dot markers to decorate pictures.

Today, we read The Big Apples Tree! We talked about the life cycle of an apple from a seed to an apple. We used pictures to make the sequence. We had a taste test to see which color apple was our favorite. And then we graphed to see which was the most liked: red, yellow, or green apples. Later, we peeled and cored apples again since we had so much fun with it yesterday! We also matched letters on "apple" stickers to the letters on apple trees. We had a fun day!

Tasting the apples!

Looking at our graph!

Today, we read Ten Apples Up on Top! We balance bean bags on our heads, like the apples in the book. We also identified numbers on apples and then counted out the number of "apple seeds" that matched. In large group, we took turns using an apple peeler/corer and then we ate the apple! It was fun to watch the peel come off! Next, we used apples to paint pictures. The apples were cut different ways to make different designs when we stamped them. We had a great day!
